This film script is by Andrei Smirnov, a well-known Russian director and screenwriter. It is a history of life of the peasant woman Varvara in Tambov province from 1909 to 1921. It shows WW1, the October revolution, the Civil war and the Antonovo peasant rebellions through eyes and fate a Russian woman. Peasant Russia like the town of Kitezh goes under water slowly, but implacably.
