His first big film `Odinokii Golos Cheloveka` in 1978, based on Andrei Platonov`s prose, made him a new star in Russian cinema. The Russian `big` cinema was one of the first victims of the collapse of the USSR as a superpower. The country can no longer support her art. Sokurov makes his films in the last decade in few copies, but yet receives awards at many prestigious film festivals. This volume contains critical articles on the films directed by Sokurov (from \"Odinokii Golos\" to \"Faust\" (2010)), his interviews, explications, letters to actors, diaries, sketches and photographs from his private archive.
