Genrikh Al`tshuller (1926-98), an engineer, inventor and an under-recognized soviet scholar, created an original theory of Inventive Problem Solving (Russian acronym TRIZ). Working as a clerk in a patent office, Al’tshuller embarked on finding some generic rules that would explain the creation of new, inventive, patentable ideas. He was arrested and imprisoned while he was a student. After his release in the 1950s, Al’tshuller settled in Baku (Azerbaijan), and founded the Azerbaijan Public Institute for Inventive Creation, and was the first President of the TRIZ Association. A full-fledged TRIZ movement developed among Soviet engineers and other technically inclined people by the 1970s, and Al’tshuller played the role of its intellectual leader. This is the fourth edition of the book first published in 1986. It contain his main work with the tasks for developing the skills of innovative thinking and solving invention problems.
