[ A Peterburg novelette in the body of Dostoevskii’s works]
St. Petersburg: Dmitrii Bulanin, 1999 350 p Serie: Studiorum Slavicorum Monumenta: Tomus 17 Hardcover. 14 x 21 cm ISBN: 5860071396 Language: Russian
This monograph analyzes the role of the St. Petersburg novelette in the work of F.M Dostoevskii. The author of the book regards five of Dostoevskii`s works of the 1840s-1860s as examples of the Petersburg novelette. These are: "The Double", "The Mistress", "The Weak heart", "Notes from the underground", and "The Crocodile". The author links Dostoevskii`s Petersburg novelette to that of Pushkin and Gogol, and shows similarities in all three writers` methods of presenting Petersburg as an image and a symbol and in defining Petersburg civilization within the bounds of the relationship of the real, fantastic, and symbolic.
