Dmitrii Travin (b. 1961), a 2003 Golden Pen award winner, a columnist and assistant to the editor-in-chief of the economic periodical "Delo", is also the research director of the Center for Modernization Studies at the European University (St. Petersburg). This book is a collection of his essays on the transition period from the soviet administrative system to the market economy and democratic institutions.
