This book investigates the medieval town of Uglich on the bank of the Volga River and the contribution of the East Slavonic tribes to its culture. The town absorbed all the diversity of epochs that left their traces in the noblest monuments of art, in icon painting, and treasures of decorative and applied arts. The book is based on materials of the exposition "Sokrovishcha Drevnego Uglicha" (Treasures of Old Uglich) and introduces for the first time many of its exhibits of decorative applied arts from the collections of Russian noble families.
