[ The Experience of Russian liberalism: An Anthology]
Ed. by M.A. Abramov
Moscow: Kanon, 1997 Serie: Istoriia filosofii v pamiatnikakh ISBN: 5883730957 Language: Russian
This book includes works by Russian philosophers, jurists, and historians of world renown, most not published in Russia since 1917. Among the authors are K. Kavelin (1818-1895), B. Chicherin (1828-1904), M. Kovalevskii (1851-1916), P. Novgorodtsev (1866-1924). Political liberalism in Russia ended in 1922 with the emigration of the last remaining liberals. The history of liberalism is described in three parts: the pre-war period, the period between war and revolution, and emigrant thought. Reasons for some of the serious failures of liberalism in Russia, namely those of 1909 and 1918, its strong and weak sides are discussed.
