This is the memoirs of S. Iu. Vitte (1849-1915), a prominent political figure, an honorary member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, chairman of the Council of Ministers (1905-1906), and Minister of Finance (1892-1903). He developed the main strategies of the Stolypin agrarian reform, and was working towards cooperation between the government and entrepreneurs. These memoirs are one of the most valuable sources on the Russian history of the end of the nineteenth-early twentieth centuries.
