The strategic triangle "The US - Europe - Russia" doesn`t exist neither de jure nor de facto, and it is unlikely that it will be possible in the foreseeable future. At the same time relations among them in many respects define world politics and economy. The presented work analyzes the political and economical aspects of transatlantic relations and the role of the West in the domestic and foreign policy of contemporary Russia. E. Batalov (b. 1935) is the senior researcher at the Institute of the USA and Canada RAN; M. Nosov (b. 1940) is a deputy to the director of the Institute of Europe RAN.
