Aleksandr Dobroklonskii (1856-1938) was a historian of the Russian Orthodox Church. He lived in emigration in Yugoslavia after 1918. The textbook covers the history of the church in the period 988-1890, as well as the evolution of the church hierarchy, religious education, liturgy and other related issues. The book was published after another famous textbook on the same subject by P.V. Znamenskii. Both of them are still considered valuable systematic sources on the history of the Russian Orthodox Church. The series started in 1991. Some other volumes from the series are also available.
