Nikolai Geintse (1852-1913) was a lawyer, journalist and writer. This is a reprint of his documentary novel about Aleksei Arakcheev (1769-1834), an officer and statesman, who made a successful career under Alexandr the First. Arakcheev became best known in Russian history, however, for his project of "voennoe poselenie" (military villages).
