This monograph studies the Finnish (Karelian) place in the history of the Russian avant-garde. Filonov and his school got to illustrate Kalevala (1934), the Epic poem based on old Karelian and Finnish folk songs. The Filonov`s school (1925-1940) was very special and the largest in number in the history of Russian painting of the 20th century. One of the Filonov`s followers, Mikhai Tsybasov made several paintings about Karelia and its characters. Bibliographical references.
