This book includes three works. The first is a memoir by Princess Olga Valerianovna Paley (Karpovich, fon Pistol`kors), the wife of Grand Duke Pavel Aleksandrovich (1860-1919), later countess Gogenfelsen. Pavel Aleksandrovich was exiled after his morganatic marriage with O. Paley. They returned to Russia, and moved into a new palace designed by the architect Shmidt when he was forgiven and allowed to come back in 1910. The second work is a collection of letters, diaries and poems of their son Vladimir. The final chapter of this book is a description of the antique collection of Olga Paley at her palace at Detskoe Selo (Tsarskoe Selo) by Erikh Gollerbakh (1895-1942), an art historian, poet and writer, a classmate of Nikolai Gumilev and Nikolai Punin. The palace and collection were nationalized in 1918.
