Tolstoy and the Genesis of "War and Peace" Transl. from English by T. Buzina
St. Petersburg: Akademicheskii Proekt, 2002 Serie: Sovremennaia Zapadnaia Rusistika ISBN: 5733101407 Language: Russian
This is a translation of the well known research by American philologist Kathryn B. Feuer (1926-1992) on the genesis of the Tolstoi`s novel War and Peace. Feuer found in the novel reflections of Tolstoi`s personal experience in the Crimean war and his answer to his contemporaries who propagated the idea of progress after and with the help of war as well as to other social and esthetic discussions of the 1850-1860s. The interpretation of the novel is also based on a deep knowledge of Tolstoi`s early versions of the novel, diaries, note books, correspondence, and other works related to the novel.
