They were both born the same year and distinguished themselves in the Russian-Turkish war. Stepan Makarov (1848-1904) died at the very beginning of the Russian-Japanese war, went into history as a hero, and became a symbol of the Russian fleet. The other Zinovii Rozhdestvenskii (1848-1909) survived the war but was disgraced by the defeat of Russian fleet and his subsequent trial. The last chapter is about the catastrophe of March 31st of 1904 and the state of the Russian fleet at the time of the war. Bibliography.
