[ Ekaterina Ivanovnaia Nelidova : Essay from the history of Emperor Pavel]
Moscow: Zakharov, 2008 240 p. [8 ill.] Serie: Biografii i memuary Hardcover. 12 x 16 cm ISBN: 9785815907300 Language: Russian
Russian Tsar Pavel the First during all his adult life had a devoted friend in the person of the maid of his wife Ekaterina Ivanovna Nelidova (1758-1839). Their contemporaries looked on their friendship as an example of favoritism, but the author shows that their relationship were mostly spiritual. E. Nelidova was a graduate of the first class of the Vospitatel`noe Obshchestvo Blagorodnykh Devits (in short Smol`nyi Institute), the first Russian school for women founded by Catherine the Great in 1762. Nelidova herself became one of the first woman educators. This book is a reprint of the 1902 edition of the well known historian E. S. Shumigorskii (1857-1920).
