This collection analyzes the collective identity in its alternative civilizational forms. The authors accent various forms of collective identity: from group, subcultural and ethnic to civilizational. They apply a functional approach to art in its relation to civilization using the example of Russia. The specific functions of art related to forming and maintaining collective identity and thus forming its ability to overcome possible civilizational crises are analyzed in this collection. The authors conclude that an ideological period in Russian history was only one of the periods of its civilization and Russian civilizational identity, and other latent functions of art as well as related to them forms of collective identity, are discussed.
