[16 ill.] pp 4 v Hardcover. 24 x 23 cm ISBN: 5932731192 Language: RussianThis is a four-volume publication about the spiritual, intellectual and cultural life of Terezin (Teresienstadt). This town 60 km from Prague was turned into a concentration camp/ghetto for Jews; for most the next stop was the camp of Auschwitz (Oswiecim) or other death camps. Terezin was a show camp for commissions from the Red Cross to demonstrate the happy life of the Jews, an eerie place in the Third Reich, "exemplary Jewish settlement" to lie to the whole world about the reality of the "final solution to the Jewish issue". The first volume (Terezin diaries 1942-1945) includes diaries and memoirs of prisoners of Terezin. The second (I`m a Wandering Child: Children and Teachers in Ghetto Terezin, 1941-1945) dwells upon literature produced in the camp by both boys and girls, including their hand-written and drawn magazines, verses and a play. Volume 3 (Terezin lectures, 1941-1944) is about the lectures given by prisoners in the camp. The forth volume (Art, Music and Theater in Terezin, 1941-1945) covers : lectures, seminars and discussions on highly diversified, sometimes unexpected themes: Plato, Goethe`s "Faust", the Japanese theater, Nikolai Gogol, the meaning of life, art, poetry and religion. The edition is profusely illustrated with drawings, documents, photographs, and stills from Terezin Nazi propaganda films. Bibliography.
