Gilman, Martin Defolt, Kotorogo Moglo by ne Byt`
[ The Default which could not happen]
Transl. from English by A. Bagaev
Moscow: Vremia, 2009 262 p pbk. 13 x 20 cm ISBN: 9785969103986 Language: RussianTen years ago Martin Gilman was the director of the headquarter of International Monetary Fond (IMF) in Moscow (1996-2002). This book is about the financial default which shook Russia in 1998. It could have been published several years ago, but the IMF did not allow its publication. This book is about the first steps of the IMF in Russia, its role, achievements and mistakes. The author does not create a complimentary portrait of his mission and actions, but rather is trying to analyze them. One of the ideas of this book is that Russia learned some lessons from the 1998 crisis, and for several year kept a conservative strategy in her financial policy. These lessons were forgotten recently and caused a financial bubble in the Russian economy. The author lives and works in Russia since 2005. Bibliography.
