Nikolai Fedorov (1829-1903) was the founder of Russian cosmism in Russian philosophy and science. N. Fedorov was an illegitimate child of Prince Pavel Gagarin, a librarian of the Rumiantsev Museum. This work is a collection of his essays and articles compiled by his followers V. Kozhevnikov and Peterson. One of the articles was written as a "letter" to Dostoevskii who expressed his interest in Fedorov`s ideas, but it was finished after Dostoevskii`s death. Leo Tolstoi was proud that he was a contemporary of N. Fedorov. F. Dostoevskii recognized many of Fedorov`s ideas as his own. Vl. Solov`ev called Fedorov`s philosophy "the first step towards the human spirit by Christ`s road". Leading Russian cosmic scientists K. Tsiolkovskii, V. Vernadskii, A. Chizhevskii and S. Korolev were influenced by Fedorov`s ideas.
