This monograph is about a book which may be called an “antropologicheskaia entsiklopediia Pravoslavnogo Srednevekov`ia,” "Dioptra" or "Dushezritel`noe Zertsalo" (XI cent.), by Byzantine author Filipp Monotrop (Fillipp Pustynnik). It was translated from Greek into Russian in the middle of the 14th century. There are about 180 versions of this book in Slavic languages, mostly in Russian. This volume includes parallel texts in Greek, Old Russian (photoreprint) and modern Russian, as well as studies on the history of this text, and its textology.
