Prince Anton Ulrich, a son of Herzog von Braunschweig-Wolfenbuttel, married Russian princess Anna Leopol`dovna in 1739. The coup d’etat of 1741 divided his life in two parts. In the first part he was a Russian generalissimo, cavalier of the highest Russian awards, and father of the future Russian emperor. In the second part, which lasted for thirty long years, he was a prisoner without a name. This is the first biography of Ul`rich in Russia along with the collection of documents from several archives. Bibliographical references. Illustrated.
