This book is the history of the development of academic centers in Siberia starting in the 1950s. The centers in several Siberian cities were one of the most successful experiments in the organization and development of Russian science, and they produced numerous significant scientific achievements and discoveries. Several generations of scholars in many fields, who now define the face of Russian science, were raised in the Siberian centers. The book studies the recruitment process as well as the organizational structure and mechanisms of raising new scholars through doctoral programs and involvement into research on the front line of science.
