This volume of the series “History of Russia and the House of Romanov in the Memoirs of Contemporaries” includes three works. The first is a memoir of a writer and officer of the Censorship Committee Evgenii Feoktistov `Behind the Curtain of Politics and Literature.” It covers the period from 1848 to 1896 and includes interesting information about writers and politicians: I.S. Loris-Melikov, etc. The second work is a memoir of the chief of the Kiev Gendarme Department General Vasilii Novitskii about the methods and practice of dealing with Russian revolutionaries, their actions and life style. The third work is by the American Fanny Lear about her romance with a nephew of Tsar Aleksandr the Second.
