The relations between Russia and Poland have been complicated for centuries. And the history of Katyn, hidden as a secret by the USSR for almost 40 years, is among the most controversial issues, the capture, detention, and execution of thousands of Polish officers and civilian men - prisoners in the USSR at the beginning of WWII. On the basis of a detailed analysis of archive documents and evidence related to the death of Polish prisoners of war on the Soviet territory, the author concludes, that it is too early to finish with the Katyn case. There is too much vagueness, though some unbiased conclusions could be made. The book by V.N. Shved, a political scientist and publicist, should contribute to the growth of mutual understanding between Russia and Poland. Also available on the same subject: Katyn`: Svidetel`stva, Vospominaniia, Publitsistika (2001).
