Vladimir Bukovskii (b. 1942), one of the best known Russian dissidents, spent more than 10 years in jails, labor camps and other penal institutions for his political convictions. He was exchanged for another political prisoner, general secretary of the Communist Party of Chile, Luis Corvalan in 1976. This year Bukovskii came back to Russia to participate in 2008 president elections.
