Viacheslav Ivanov (b. 1929), is the son of writer Vsevolod Ivanov, a linguist (ancient Eastern languages), historian of literature and culture, poet and writer, director of the Institute of World Culture of Moscow State University, and professor of Russian culture at the University of California at Los Angeles. He is one of the last remaining representatives of the Moscow-Tartu Semiotic School. The current volume contains works in the semiotics of culture, arts (theater, cinema, visual arts), and science.
