Kurbskii (1528-1583), Russian general, writer, and statesman, commander under Ivan the Terrible, and his governor in Iuriev/Tartu, fled to Poland in 1564. From his self-imposed exile, he wrote several messages to his former sovereign, blaming him for the misfortunes of Russia. This book consists of two parts. The first one contains biographical information about "several Kurbskiis," in Russian history. The first one is a Russian prince, boiarin and voevoda. The second one is a writer, translator and publicist. The third is a special figure in Russian history, literature, ideology and consciousness.
