This is a reprint of the first volume of collected works of Russian military historian and hero of the Caucasian war Rostislav Fadeev (1824-1883). He was an active opponent of the military reforms proposed by D.A. Miliutin, and an even more active supporter of panslavicism. This book contains his works related to the Caucasian period of his life, and they are considered as the best study of Russian eastern policy in the 1860s.
