This is the second edition of the book by writer Lidia Korneevna Chukovskaia (1907-1996), a close friend of Akhmatova. It is not a memoir, but her diary, written as events unfolded. Chukovskaia`s writing of this diary was at the time an act of personal heroism, because hew own family and the family of Akhmatova were severely repressed by the Stalin`s punitive organs.
