Matias Aleksantern Kastren (1813-1852), a Finnish linguist and ethnographer, studied language and ethnography of the peoples living in the Russian North. He is the author of grammars and dictionaries for twenty languages and a pioneer of comparative studies in historic linguistics. These two book are his travel diaries. They were published in Germany and Russia in 1853-1860. The book is printed on excellent paper.
