This is the first Russian edition of an interesting monument of early Christian literature about Saint Severin. The introduction which compiles more then half of the book contains new studies on the Roman province Noricum, St. Severin`s political and religious activity in Noricum; on the historical sources of the Vita Severini and their trustworthiness. The Russian translation of "Life" includes commentary and the original Latin text. The genre of hagiography is interesting not only for description of extraordinary Christian believers, but also for detailed description of their surroundings, traditional values and cultural realities.
