This is a collection of the most significant works by the modern Russian philosopher Nina Naumova. It consists of her last book and several articles. The book, Retsidiviruiushchaia Modernizatsiia v Rossii: Beda, Vina, ili Resurs Chelovechestva? (Recidivistic modernization in Russia: Trouble, fault, or resource of humankind?), addresses a problem little studied before: how do people react, reflect and behave in a situation of constantly recurring modernization along with its heavy social consequences. The author qualifies the Russian way of modernization as one which always chases the more developed countries, but interprets it not as a delay but as a new historical alternative to existing strategies of modernization. Naumova analyzes the socio-psychological processes accompanying this kind of modernization and makes some suggestions about social policy designed to help people cope with social changes.
