"Synopsis" is a treatise authored by Innokenty Gizel, warden of the Kiev-Mogilyansk` Academy and the archimandrite of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. It was written shortly after the convention of the Pereyaslavl treaty (Pereyaslavl rada), which ratified the addition of Ukraine to Russia. For more than a century this book was the only available study book on this subject in Russian history. With the appearance of authentic historical studies beginning with Lomonosv the "Synopsis" joined the ranks of historical monuments some of which suddenly popped up into prominence and topicality in our days. The two last chapters introduce "Great, Little, and White Russia", but no instance of the word "Ukraine" or its derivative "Ukranian" can be found in the "Synopsis".
