This new volume in the series Traditional Spiritual Culture of the Slavs represents the first collection of Czech incantations in the history of Slav philology and ethnography. All texts are from sources difficult of access. More than 3000 texts are divided into seven functional groups of subjects: love charms, medical incantations, daily round and family life, trades and business, social relations, attitude towards supernatural creatures. Inside each group a number of subject sub-group are distinguished. The collected incantations are provided with a list of lexical items of Czech incantations, as well as with a little dictionary of diseases mentioned in the text. The collection is preceded by an essay on the history of studies in the domain of Czech incantations. Bibliography.
