It includes memoirs by and about the Bestuzhev brothers, who were Decembrists, participants of the rebellion of 1825: Aleksandr (1797-1837) , Mikhail (1800-71), Nikolai (1791-1855) and Petr (1808-40). Aleksandr Bestuzhev (literary pseudonym Marlinskii) was a very popular Russian writer of the 1820s who inspired many writers of the next generation: Ivan Turgenev, Leo Tolstoi, and others. Nikolai Bestuzhev was one of the hundred Decembrists exiled to Siberia after their rebellion.
