This monograph presents the results of experimental linguistic study of pronunciation of two consonants in Russian literary language. Several ways of pronunciation were investigated as well as factors responsible for their variety: position in phrase, number of sounds in a word, etc. The authors identified the main trend of eliminating one consonant in a combination of two. This is an enlarged and updated edition of the book published by Dialog-MGU in 1999 in 250 copies. Supplements include methodology and statistical data of the study. Bibliography.
