This is the second volume of the series on the Eastern Christian world. The current volume is a reprint of the classic fundamental monograph by the art historian, Academician N. P. Kondakov (1844-1925). The author, a professor of Moscow and St. Petersburg universities, was a prominent leader of the Russian research school in Byzantine and Ancient Russian art. This book is his report about a scientific expedition to study the influence that Byzantine art centered in Constantinopol had on Slavic and Western European culture.
