This monograph by a group of Russian demographers led by Anatolii Vishnevskii analyzes the controversial demographic history of Russia as the history of demographic modernization which drastically changed the private and public life of the citizen of Russia. The contributors investigated an enormous volume of statistical materials, graphs and tables, and showed how matrimonial, procreative, sexual, family and personal safety behavior changed into what Russia is now, and concluded that these changes are not over or complete.
