[ The Slavs. Old Russian Ethnicity : Historico-archaeological study]
Moscow: Znak, 2005 944 p Serie: Studia Historica Hardcover. 16 x 23.5 cm ISBN: 5995100059 Language: Russian
This book includes the second edition of the two most significant works of modern historian and archeologist Valentin Sedov (1924-2004). The first, Slaviane (2002), studies the history of the Slavs at the moment when they held ethnic and linguistic unity: from the 1st century to the early Medieval period. The second work, Drevnerusskaia Narodnost` (1999), deals with the 10-13th centuries and attempts to track the history of the formation of the Old Russian ethnicity based on archeological data. According to the author, the Eastern Slavic ethno-linguistic group split into several ethnoses because of two factors: the Tatar-Mongol invasion, and the integration of several Eastern Slavic territories into the Lithuanian state. This work offers a new explanation on many aspects of the history of the Old Russian ethnos. Bibliography. Indices.
