The documents collected in this volume cover the main part of soviet deportations: the ethnic ones. The first instances of ethnic deportations happened in the 1920s; they assumed a mass scale by the late 1930s and, having culminated during the years of WWII, subsided after the war. The structure and logic of this volume follow this chronologically uneven pattern of deportation operations. A short postscript covers the period after the Stalin`s death: 1953-1956. An addendum lists all the deportation campaigns and operations in the USSR, as well as contains some dubious documents of deportations, presumable faked in the Third Reich. The volume contains an introductory article, an archeographic foreword, preambles to the parts and subdivisions as well as a name index and bibliography. Also available on this subject: Polian, P.M.
