This is the memoirs of Nestor Makhno (Mikhnenko, 1889-1934), one of the most popular leaders of peasant opposition to the revolution of 1917. Under the anarchist flag he fought sequentially with the Austrian-German army, the Hetman, the White, and the Red armies. He made terms with the soviet government three times, and each time broke the agreement and started a rebellion. He escaped from Ukraine to Romania in 1921. This memoir describes his childhood, his participation in the revolutionary expropriations, his meetings with theoreticians of anarchism and marxist leaders, and the beginning of the Makno movement in 1917-1918. Also included are his articles and verses.
