Language: RussianThe system crisis that happened in the fist decade after the collapse of the USSR made many workers in Russia unemployed. Many of them started to make their living in so called "spontaneous trade" ("stikhiinaia torgovlia") and "spontaneous service". This collected work defines and analyzes these two areas of self-employment in four regions in the south of Russia with the help of sociological and statistical instruments. The contributors describe social characteristics of this part of population and types of their businesses. They also analyze federal and local policy towards this sector of the economy, and make some suggestions for improvement. Bibliographical references.
