This book is on the history of the Russian Orthodox Church and its relations with the Bolshevik government in the first five years of its existence. The author describes in detail the anti-church campaigns initiated by the government and the formation of new agencies on religious policy. One chapter describes the structure of the supreme institutions of the Church in the years of the Civil war and the NEP, self-governing organizations on the territories taken by the White Army, relations between the Church and local authorities.
