This is a new biography of Mikhail Sholokhov (1905-1984), a Nobel prize winner, who takes a special place in Russian literature. One of the reasons for this is the long-term discussion about the authorship of the Nobel prize winning novel “The Quiet Don”, started in 1930s and then revived by A. Solzhenitsyn, R. Medvedev, G. Ermolaev, and many others. The recent 100th anniversary stimulated a new flow of publications about Sholokhov, and a new round of arguments which are reflected in this biography. Chronology of Sholokhov`s life, bibliography. Also available: Tainaia Zhizn` Mikhaila Sholokhova: Dokumental`naia Khronika bez Legend (1995); Petelin, Viktor. Zhizn` Sholokhova (2002).
