M. Liubavskii (1860-1936), a professor and rector of Moscow University (1911-1918), the successor of Vasilii Kliuchevskii as the chair of the Russian History department, was a specialist in Slavic history, medieval Lithuania, historical geography, and archive studies. He was repressed in 1930 in the absurd "academic case of 1929-1931", and was made an outlaw in Russian historical science. This book has not been reprinted since 1910. It covers the history of the Lithuanian-Russian government until the Lublin Union (13th-16th centuries). Also available by the same author: Istoricheskaia Geografiia Rossii v Sviazi s Kolonizatsiei (2000); Lektsii po Drevnei Russkoi Istorii do Kontsa XVI Veka (2000); Istoriia Tsarstvovaniia Ekateriny II (2001); Russkaia Istoriia XVII-XVIII vv.
