Since 1989 Panorama of Russia has specialized in academic and reference publications from the Russian Federation and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
This is the next volume in the series Traditional Spiritual Culture of the Slavs: Modern Studies. The current volume is based on field studies in Poles`e, an archaic Slavic region on the border among Russia, Ukraine, and Belorussia, a treasure of Russian folklorists. The author describes the traditional folk calendar in this area: names and meanings of holidays, memorable dates and seasons, traditions and instruction for every day, mythological beliefs related to them. The Poles`e calendar is analyzed in a broader ethnocultural context and in its connections with traditions of other Slavic peoples. The author presents her materials for an ethno-dialectic dictionary of Poles`e chronomymes and indices to this dictionary. Also available: Polesskie Zagovory (V Zapisiakh 1970-1990 gg.) (2003).
