The core of this book is the first publication of a memoir about the Russian poet Nikolai Gumilev (1886-1921) by his son Orest Vysotskii, also a poet (pp. 9-307). The second part is also memoirs about N. Gumilev by 29 of his contemporaries collected and commented by professor of Russian literature Vadim Kreid (Iowa University). These memoirs were not included in Nikolai Gumilev v Vospominaniakh Sovremennikov (1990) or were included in an abridged version.
