According to the author of this book, the Song of Igor`s Campaign was written by the superior of Kiev-Pechera Lavra in the 12th century Vasilii Shchekovitskii. The author disputes the so called pagan orientation of the Song, explains the Christian symbolism in pre-Mongol Rus, shows the significant role of the Kiev Metropolitan Illarion as the first ideologue of the Russian Church and his place in the Song. Gurchenko offer his own new translation of the Song which eliminates some mistakes of previous ones.
