Language: RussianDmitrii Zavalishin (1804-1892) was close to the Decembrists, but did not take part in the rebellion of 1825. However he was arrested and sentenced for 20 years of katorga. In 1863 he alone was exiled to the European part of Russia. In his memoir, Zavalishin criticizes both the Decembrists and the government, autocracy and liberalism. In accordance with his talents and gifts, he could have become an admiral or minister or politician, but he became a lost soul, an impeached person. Leo Tolstoi was carried away by this diary, and even learned long passages by heart. This is a reprint of the book Zapiski Dekabrista D.I. Zavalishina published in 1904-1906.
